A commercial CCTV or access-control system isn't a "set it and forget it" investment. Regular checks help catch small issues before they become downtime or coverage gaps.
Cameras
- Check for obstructed views (dust, cobwebs, foliage growth, relocated equipment)
- Confirm image focus and clarity, especially for outdoor cameras exposed to weather
- Verify night-vision performance during low-light hours
Recording & Storage
- Confirm the NVR is actively recording on all channels
- Check available storage capacity and retention period
- Verify playback works as expected
Network
- Check PoE switch status and port health
- Confirm all cameras are online and reporting to the NVR
- Review network performance if remote viewing is in use
Access Control
- Test readers at each door for consistent response
- Confirm door position sensors and request-to-exit devices are functioning
- Review the credential list and remove access for former staff
- Check battery backup (if applicable) on controllers and locking hardware
Documentation
- Keep a record of installed equipment, firmware versions and configuration changes
- Track any recurring issues to identify hardware that may need replacement
