Installing CCTV in a warehouse is a different project from a small office — larger coverage areas, more cabling, and often an active operational environment to work around. Here's what the process typically involves.
1. Site Assessment
Before any equipment is chosen, a site assessment evaluates dock doors, racking layout, yard coverage needs, existing network infrastructure and cabling paths.
2. Equipment Selection
Camera types are matched to each area — wide-angle or multiple cameras for dock doors, weather-rated bullet cameras for the yard, and standard fixed cameras for aisles and office areas.
3. Cabling & Network Planning
Warehouses often require longer cable runs than a typical office. Planning PoE switch placement and cable pathways (along racking, overhead structure, or conduit) is a key part of the project.
4. Installation
Cameras, PoE switches and the NVR are mounted and wired according to the design. In an active warehouse, installation is often scheduled to minimize disruption to receiving, picking and shipping operations.
5. Testing & Alignment
Each camera is checked for field of view, focus and image quality, with adjustments made to eliminate blind spots identified during the site assessment.
6. Commissioning & Handover
The system is configured, recording settings confirmed, and access to remote viewing (if applicable) set up before handover, along with documentation of the completed installation.
